Paes-Tipsarevic Win Season Opener – Chennai 2012
Third seeds Leander Paes and Janko Tipsarevic won the Aircel Chennai Open title on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over fourth-seeded Israelis Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram.
Paes lifted the Chennai title for the sixth time with his 48th tour-level doubles trophy, while Tipsarevic made up for defeat in the singles final (l. to Raonic) by capturing his first team title.
I know how difficult it is mentally to play two finals on the same day,” said Paes. “The way he [Tipsarevic] prepared for both the finals, it was impeccable. He epitomises what an athlete should be.”
Tipsarevic admitted, “I had a very hard pre-season. I have that every year. Fitness in general is one of my strength. I love playing with someone who loves to ask me something but also to give something.”
The Indian-Serbian team share $21,800 in prize money and 250 ATP Doubles Team Rankings points, while Erlich and Ram earn a cheque for $11,480 and 75 points.
Paes and Tipsarevic took a 3-0 lead, with two breaks of serve. They won 18 of their 28 service points in the 35-minute first set.
The teams exchanged breaks of serve at the beginning of the second set. Ram lost his serve to 30 at 4-4, which handed Paes an opportunity to close out victory in 74 minutes.

Our AthletesTraining Programs keep evolving while this in-season we’ve moved into a Series of Pre-hab based programs including dynamic warm-ups, dynamic stretching, full body strengthening , endurance and light load- high speed training. Our focus is on getting our athletes and keeping our athletes out of pain!! A pain free athlete is happier, performs better, and maintains the program more consistently which creates winning results by maintaining longer periods of peak performance.
Almost all of our Athletes begin their day with Living Fuel shakes. What we’ve found is that there is a boost to the immune system which is resulting in less time lost from viruses and bugs picked up during travel. They are rich in fruits, vegetables, and proteins. They are also fortified with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and probiotics.
Speaking of Living Fuel, We want to personally ‘Thank’ all the Living Fuel staff, KC, Monica, Jeff, Mark and Katie for all their help and support with the successful Launch of SuperFlexBands.com. Also thanks for getting the product out so quickly to the athletes. You are the model for customer service!
And a Super sincere “Thank you Chet” at CoolFish Web design for the AWESOME SuperFlexBands.com website. It’s so hot!
So remember if your looking for a breakthrough performance. Train out of Pain!
Stay Stretched and SuperFlexed!

Shanghai Surprise: Leander WINS Again!
Big win for Leander and teammate Jurgen Melzer today in Shanghai. It’s LP first doubles win in the 2010 season and could not have come at a better time. When I spoke to Leander this morning immediately following the win he was sitting in a chair in Shanghai getting a foot/ankle massage. We joked about how he felt like Kung Fu Panda out on the court carrying a little extra weight around his mid–section. Not to worry though because San Jeev Javia (Jeevers) is in the process of designing LP’s nutrition program for him to follow over the next 3 weeks with a goal to drop 8-10 lbs. Lee will begin shooting his movie on Wednesday while going through an intensive nutrition and training program for the next three weeks to prepare him for the season ending Barclay ATP World Tour Finals and movie roles. He said at the movie shoot he will have access to a pool, gym, and will have all his bands (SuperFlex Bands- follow us on twitter @SuperFlexBands) to work with. He said he uses his bands everyday for his warm-up to keep his shoulder loose and strong.

The Austrian-Indian duo had ended the 20-match winning streak of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the semi-finals and, in the final defeated on Marcus Fyrstenberg and Matkowski. Time to “STAY LOOSE”
We’re a couple of weeks away from the start of summer and it’s already RED HOT! Our Rising Star Yueer Cindy Feng and Pro Track Star Ty Tryon have both qualified for the US Open Golf Championships! Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy just finaled in the French Open men’s doubles championships this past weekend, but fell a little short after winning the event in 2009. Skip Kendall finished 7th in Nationwide Tour event in Maryland and has had several solid performances on both the PGA and Nationwide tours. Cindy Feng successfully defended her 2009 Thunderbird Championship title with another victory there last month, and our Motin Yeung had a solid top 11 finish. Sandra Gal is back at it this week at the LPGA State Farm and Suzann returns to tour next week in Atlantic City. Trevor Immelman starts his big summer run at Pebble Beach next week.

Were headed into the middle of a competitive phase for all the athletes. With many of the golf and tennis majors just around the corner our focus shifts to STAYING LOOSE and RECOVERED. Dynamic band stretching integrated with stretching through 3-planes of motions will be primary tools this summer as the athletes increase and maintain flexibility through this challenging competitive period. Recovery through nutrition and supplements are vital to decrease muscle and joint soreness, ward off injuries and maintain consistent levels of performance through summer’s intense heat.
After trips to the Men’s and Women’s US Open Golf championships, it’s off to Washington in July as Leander and Rennae Stubbs go sleeveless for the 2009 World Team Tennis defending champs the Washington Kastles. At the end of summer we’ll head up to Portland with the LPGA Tours and then over to the US Open Tennis Championships in late August to watch Leander and Rennae make their runs for doubles titles.
Tyler Benzel has been on fire and here’s the link to some of TB’s recent baseball action. http://floridaleague.com/PressRoom/RecentNews/tabid/116/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/36/Benzel-Strikes-Lightning-Four-Times.aspx
Just a shout out ‘Great work’ to Bucky Maler on getting his 60 yard dash time to 6.85. Proud of you Auto! Also, Athlete’s Training is excited to reconnect with tennis’s young gun Jake Kolb out of Melbourne, Florida. Let’s go Jake! Kristina Wong rolls back into Orlando for the summer training next week and Terrance Zhang is prepped to strike. Were also excited to add a new addition, Ailin Li to the rising stars program.
Special thanks goes out to San Jeev Javia (Jeevers) for all his help and guidance with many of our athletes’ nutrition and supplementation programs. Jeevers is currently the Director of Health, Fitness and Nutrition as well as the Director of the Musculoskeletal Institute at the Steadman/Hawkins Clinic in Greenville, S.C.
So until the next blog…
Stay LOOSE and be Recovered!

Time to ‘BE FOCUSED’
The 2010 season is off to a bang with a big win down under. Leander Paes wins the Mixed Doubles Championship at the Australian Open with Partner Cara Black. This is LP’s 11th Grand Slam title, tying for the Indian record. CONGRATS LEANDER and CARA!!!
We are moving out of the off-season into tournament play for Athletes Training’s professional golfers. Suzann and Sandra head out this week, and Trevor’s getting ready to go! Skip is down under on the Nationwide, and we are following his scores closely. As we transition into competitive phases, the workouts will change and the players will shift to maintain their conditioning with on the road programs that focus on cardio, core, and bandwork.

In my last blog I mentioned I would share specific information about breath work. Simple breathing techniques can help you BE FOCUSED, push away the negative distractions, and put you on the pathway to the ZONE! Below are a couple of links to some great information that I use to introduce breath work to my athletes. I hope you find this helpful.

Also, many thanks to leading sports biomechanist JJ Rivet of Biomecaswing for introducing us to his innovative golf specific training methods and drills. Athletes Training is also proud to announce JJ Rivet to the AT advisory board. Thanks again for your support JJ!
A quick congrats goes to Yueer ‘Cindy’ Feng for her continued record breaking winning streak on the Florida Junior Golf Tour with another Win in January. Way to go Cindy! We’re also very excited to have the 2009 Optimist and US World Kids Champ Terrance Zhang in the full time rising stars program.
So until the next blog…
Stay disciplined and BE FOCUSED!!!

ATTACKING 2010
I cannot remember a year in the past that I have been more excited for. The Athletes Training Team is ready to ATTACK in 2010! Everyone is healthy, relaxed and getting physically EXPLOSIVE!
Most athletes are moving through the off-season (preparation) phase into a pre-competitive phase. Training days will now become longer, due to the fact that the athletes will spend a larger percentage of the day working on their sport specific technical skills.
Just a quick ‘GREAT JOB!’ shout out to the David Leadbetter coaches (Dave, Sean, Kevin and Andrew) for their world-class instruction with many of AT’s golfers. The relaxation effect the players are showing comes from the confidence they are feeling with their swings.
Leander and Rennae begin their 2010 season next week in Australia preparing for the Australian Open tournament in mid-January. We’ll be following them closely and waiting for Coach Ricky Leach’s return to Leander’s camp. So hustle back Coach Leach!
Athletes Training will utilize two key techniques, Breathwork and Balance, to prepare our athletes for breakthrough performances and Championship WINS in 2010! Stay tuned to the next blog where we will utilize some important breathing exercises that will help you to get through those tough moments.
Stay disciplined,
Coach D
